Improving the ecological footprint across our operations and the entire value chain
Climate change mitigation and adaptation are a top priority at Bayer. We support the Paris Agreement and the objective of limiting global warming to 1.5 °C relative to the pre-industrial level. We have defined a clear climate strategy and set a target of achieving climate neutrality by 2030.1 We have also committed to achieve “net-zero” greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across our value chain by 2050.

Renewable energy
As part of our goal to achieve 100% renewable electricity by 2030, we are already making strides. For example, our manufacturing facility in Rydalmere, Australia operates exclusively on green, renewable energy.2

Water protection
We are continuously evaluating water usage for sustainable improvements throughout our manufacturing processes: for example at our production site Bergkamen, Germany, we have upgraded our water waste management to increase the clean water we return back to the ecosystem.

Supply chain initiatives
Challenging the status quo in the supply chain is essential to us as we are rethinking product and resource lifecycles. In Italy, we introduced for instance Green Pallets, which are made from 100% recycled plastic and are fully recoverable at the end of their lifecycle,3,4 making them more eco-friendly and longer lasting compared to our current pallets.

Driving sustainability aspects of our products, packaging, and beyond
We continuously seek to improve the ecological footprint of our build-to-last products. Our efforts start in R&D with discovery of product innovation and tracking sustainability criteria along the development process. We equally prioritize improving packaging solutions of existing products, and providing offerings for circularity and recycling at the end of the product life-cycle.

re:device - Injector recycling
With the re:device pilot project* we are offering customers a service to collect their old Bayer injectors. This is to ensure that injector parts that can be reused after repair will get a second life as spare parts for our service teams.
All remaining parts that cannot be repaired and reworked will be disposed off properly.

Remote service and training offerings
Our products are accompanied by a comprehensive service and training offering including remote solutions. With VirtualCare enabling remote equipment service and Virtual reality enabled training with HoloLense* we can avoid unnecessary travel while maximizing uptime.
